E' arrivato il serbatoio - The fuel tank is arrived

Finalmente è arrivato il serbatoio della benzina in alluminio; dopo varie alternative ho optato per questa, che mi sembra la più logica. Ho dovuto spostare ancora la pompa ma adesso penso che tutto possa funzionare al meglio. Il serbatoio è abbastanza riparato da urti accidentali e tutto il gruppo è all'interno del passo.

Finally is arrived the petrol tank in aluminum; after various alternatives I opted for this, which I think is the most logical. I still had to move the pump but now I think everything will work the best. The tank is rather well sheltered from accidental bumps and the whole group is in the wheelbase.

Nuovi pompa benzina e filtro - the new fuel pump and fuel filter

In questo progetto, ho preferito dislocare in modo differente alcuni servizi che erano presenti sulla Davrian al momento del suo arrivo. In origine l'alimentazione veniva garantita da una coppia di pompe SU montate sul parafiamma del cruscotto verso il lato motore; ora invece ho montato una pompa FACET con filtro e regolatore di pressione nella zona posteriore, immediatamente dietro i sedili, nel mezzo della triangolazione dei tralicci del telaio.

In this project, I preferred to dislocate in a different way some services that were present on the Davrian at the time of his arrival. Originally the fuel source was guaranteed by a pair of SU pumps mounted on the baffle dashboard on the engine side; But now I put a FACET pump with filter and pressure regulator in the back, directly behind the seats, in the middle of the triangulation of the truss frame.

La prima immagine è tratta dal libro di Martin Morgan Jones "Davrian to Darrian" e raffigura il retrotreno di un "prototipo" con il cambio transaxle, come descritto dalla didascalia; la seconda immagine è stata scattata ieri sera e raffigura la Davrian Spitfire, nella medesima situazione,senza il cambio transaxle ma con un tradizionale differenziale posteriore, a testimonianza di una differente scelta tecnica perseguita da progettista. - The first image is taken from the book of Martin Morgan Jones "Davrian to Darrian" and depicts the rear end of a "prototype" with the transaxle gearbox, as described in the caption; The second picture was taken yesterday evening and depicts the Davrian Spitfire in the same situation, without the transaxle gearbox but with a traditional rear differential, reflecting a different choice technique pursued by the designer.

Finalmente ho ricostruito la storia cromatica del vestito della davrian; in origine era blu, poi verniciata grigia, successivamente verde BRG (ma solo esternamente) e poi azzurro - Finally I have reconstructed the painting history of the Davrian body; was originally blue, then painted gray, then green BRG (but only outside) and then light blue.

Restauro delle portiere in fiberglass - Restoration of the fiberglass doors

Come prima fase del restauro del body della Davrian, ho pensato di lavorare sulle portiere in fiberglass, con l'obbiettivo di arrivare alla verniciatura di fondo, in attesa della scelta del colore definitivo - As the first step of the Davrian body restoration, I thought I'd work on the doors in fiberglass, with the aim to get to the basecoat, waiting the choice for the final color.

Regolatore di frenata - Brake bias valve

Con il nuovo impianto frenante ho ritenuto necessario montare un ripartitore di frenata per evitare il bloccaggio dell'asse posteriore nelle frenate più decise. Si regola dal posto guida ruotando la manopola.
With the new brakes system I felt it necessary to install a brake balance to avoid locking the rear axle during braking more decisive. It adjusts from the driver's seat by turning the knob.

Magnesium Minilite

Ho fatto verificare da un laboratorio specializzato la consistenza strutturale dei cerchi Minilite in magnesio da 6x13 della Davrian; esito positivo, nessun difetto strutturale e quindi, anche dopo tanti anni, posso usarli su strada. Credo che li vernicerò color magnesio semilucido.
I did check by a specialist laboratory the structural consistency of the  Magnesium 6x13 Minilite of the Davrian; successful, no structural defect and then, even after so many years, I can use them on the road. I think I will paint them semi-gloss color magnesium.

Nuovo cruscotto - New Dash panel

L'artigianato inglese è maestro nell'assemblare le auto. La riprova viene dalla storia dell'auto, con tutte quelle race cars, compreso le formule, che hanno dissemitato la storia delle competizioni automobilistiche. Come spesso avviene, certe scelte possono essere discutibili; è questo il caso del dash panel che era montato originariamente sulla Davrian Spitfire. Assolutamente antiestetico, ho pensato, dato che si tratta di un esemplare unico, di dare un tocco più elegante oltrechè funzionale al nuovo dash panel. Spero di aver fatto un buon lavoro.
The English craftsmanship is  teacher in assembling the cars. The confirmation comes from the car history, with all those race cars, including formulas, which have littered the history of motor racing. As often happens, some choices may be debatable; this is the case of the dash panel that was originally fitted on Davrian Spitfire. Absolutely unsightly, I thought, given that it is unique proto, to give a touch more elegant and functional besides the new dash panel. I hope I did a good job.

Ricomincia l'avventura

Dopo qualche anno di inattività, eccoci nuovamente a lavorare su questo prototipo. Ovviamente la prima cosa da fare è approntare lo chassis, e dopo le ultime fatiche, il lavoro sembra pagare.
